Bluegrass Unlimited Review of Fare Thee Well
Anyone who has ever attended the International Bluegrass Music Association's (IBMA) Trade Show
in Louisville, Ky., has certainly passed the booth of the ever-friendly Dean Sapp. Dean and
his band, The Harford Express, are fixtures on the East Coast bluegrass scene with several previous
recording projects to their credit. This latest, "Fare Thee Well," is an impressive, dozen-song
collection formed largely of original pieces like "We'll Go Steppin' Out," "Won't You Stay
Awhile," and "Australia My Love." More familiar titles include Bob Dylan's "Fare Thee Well" and
Earl Scruggs' "Nashville Blues." A pair of notable highlights are mandolinist Danny Curtis'
instrumental "Moon Bride's Waltz" and Dean Sapp's "The Lost Soul," which relates the story
of the Titanic from an unusual perspective. If you are not familiar with the music of Dean Sap
and The Harford Express, "Fare Thee Well" is an excellent introduction to their own special
brand of bluegrass music. (Old Train Music, 1723 W. Pulaski Hwy., Elkton, MD 21921)
